Here is where old world charm meets modern design and functionality for a stunning look. The Kirsch Wrought Iron Curtain Rod Collection’s solid quality is evident in its brackets, finials, rings and a stoutly-made 1″ wrought iron curtain rod. This very popular line of drapery hardware incorporates Old World influences of beauty and luxury.
What is Wrought Iron?
Cast iron and wrought iron are often defined by how the materials are formed. But they differ also in their material composition. Wrought iron is composed primarily of iron. During manufacture, the iron is removed from heat and worked with a hammer while still hot to achieve its intended form. Wrought iron is highly malleable, meaning it can be heated, and re-heated, and worked into various shapes—and in fact grows stronger the more it’s worked. The word “wrought” actually derives from the past participle of the word “work.”
Why Wrought Iron?
In terms of how it’s used, wrought iron has a much higher tensile strength than cast iron, making it more suitable for horizontal beams in construction and certainly for curtain rods. In addition to its aesthetic value, it is sturdy, long-lasting, resilient and easy to clean.
Adding iron hardware to your design scheme is the equivalent to finding a perfectly complimentary accessory or piece of jewelry to complete a well-coordinated outfit.
Wrought iron drapery hardware can complement so many style variations from rustic Mediterranean to old world opulence to contemporary eclectic. It can be purely natural and earthy in an aged Tuscan décor, romantic and elegant in a Victorian Art Nouveau inspired décor or daring and avant-garde in a modern living room. In the Victorian era, decorative wrought iron gates and railings were a statement and a symbol of stature and well-being.
KIRSCH WROUGHT IRON COLLECTION is offered in five different finish options and includes 1inch diameter rods in varying length options, rings, lovely brackets, holdbacks and ten different styles of finials from simple shapes to quite intricate. Additional accessories such as swivel socket curtain rod connectors are also available for angled windows.
